Why where this South Pacific paradise people once voted “The Happiest People on Earth?” A Vanuatu holiday will show you why. There are several aspects to tourism in Vanuatu, with it’s capital city, Port Vila being a regular South Pacific cruise ship stop over.

While Port Vila is the main tourist spot, some of the other islands offer great scuba diving and active volcanoes, plus glimpses of a lifestyle that has not changed in hundreds of years. Game Fishing in Vanuatu offers some of best Sailfish and Marlin fishing in the world. Water sports are also popular, with Parasailing, Water Skiing, Yatching and the new Rocket Jet all poular on Port Vila’s crystal clear blue waters.

Vanuatu has the world’s “First Underwater Post Office?” You buy special waterproof postcards, available from shops on land. You then scuba dive three metres down to have your postcards embossed with a waterproof stamp by one of four dive-accredited postal workers. This underwater “Post Office” was specially created by Vanuatu Post to celebrate Vanuatu’s status as a marine paradise.

Vanuatu’s second island, Santo, is famous worldwide for scuba diving. Diving in Santo includes the largest diveable wreck in the world, the USS President Coolidge. Another second world war two wreck is the USS Tucker; both of these American war wrecks are reasonably accessable to divers who have passed basic diving proficiency tests. Following the end of the war the USA Army drove massive amounts of war surplus off the reef, creating the dive haven known as Million Dollar Point.

The island of Tanna is home to one of the worlds most accessible volcanoes, Mount Yasur. You drive to the base of Yasur volcano and then walk the final incline, arriving around sunset. Listening to Mt Yasur rumble and feeling the ground tremble beneath you reminds you of just how powerful nature is and how tiny we are - an awesome experience.

On the summit of this Tanna Volcano, you can actually look down into the core of molten lava. As the sun goes down, the spectaclar Yasur volcano is framed in red against the blackening sky. After sunset you head back down the Tanna Volcano, using torches to navigate the rocky descent. If the Tanna Volcano doesn’t inspire you - nothing will! Tanna is also home to a very friendly dugong, which seems to enjoy human company

Last - but by no means least - is Pentecost Island home to one of the world’s most spectacular “manhood” ceremonies - Vanuatu’s Pentecost Land Dive . Pentecost Island is the birthplace of modern bungee jumping.

Vanuatu is unique in many ways - amongst them that it is the only place on earth that England and France ruled jointly rather than fight a war over. When you see what a fabulous place Vanuatu is, it is not hard to understand why.

If you cannot be happy and relaxed in Vanuatu, you will never be happy anywhere. For an amazing family holiday or honeymoon, Vanuatu holidays take some beating. An archipelago of 83 islands, Vanuatu is located in the South Pacific Ocean near Fiji, New Caledonia, and east of Australia
